After their impressive debut in 1B and a home win against Trinity, Nenagh Ormond renewed acquaintances with a familiar foe, Blackrock College, the team who defeated them to get promoted to 1B back in the 2023-23 season.
Recently promoted Nenagh Ormond RFC visited Stradbrook last Saturday to get the second game of the season under way on a autumn day against a strong Blackrock side.
Blackrock had the start they were looking for and came into the game at a high tempo and good early play saw a penalty converted and Rock lead. Continued speed and Indigo Cruise O’Brien’s positioning could not be caught with a long sprint to make it under the posts and get the home side off to a start of 10 plus game. Nenagh struck back and a try in the score board corner to make it a 13-7 game and lots of good rugby on show.
Good team play saw the home side acquire two more penalties, and which Conor O’Shaughnessy slotted, and Blackrock had a 19-7 at half time.
Second half saw the home side play towards the clubhouse and to manage a slight breeze.
New recruit, Kaylem Tytherleigh took a smart line to get Blackrock on the score board quickly and with the O’Shaughnessy conversion, Blackrock were 18 points clear, 26-7!
Nenagh Ormond’s pack orchestrated some big plays and the away side scored two converted tries in the matter of 15 minutes, with a Rock penalty to bring game to 29-21. Another try and we had a one point game with a quarter remaining! Relentless Nenagh scored once more to take the lead with 7 mins to go.
Rock kept in the fight and Brian Colclough scored under the posts when Jack Ringrose took a quick tap in the dying minutes to get the game to 36-38.
Nenagh managed to see the game out and they continue a fine start to the season.
Blackrock team, every improving, take on Old Belvedere this Saturday at Anglesea Road in a local derby so please make the effort to come and support your team!
