Game Day Gallery: Men's 1st XV v Nenagh

It wasn't meant to be for the 1st XV on Saturday in a high quality and high scoring game of rugby. Rock got off to the perfect start with Conor O'Shaugnessy scoring the first 3 of his 21 point haul. Nenagh hit back and were destined to score until a brilliant defensive read by Inigo Cruise O'Brien, saw him intercept and stride home under the posts from 80m.Two more penalties from the trusty boot of O'Shaugnessy were cancelled out by a breakaway Nenagh try and left Rock with a 19-7 lead at half time.

The teams switched ends and Rock played into the clubhouse and a strong breeze in the second half. It couldn't have got off to a better start when Leo McFarlane sniped and put Kaylam Tytherliegh under the posts for a home debut try. 26-7 and looking in control. However, it was not to be. Nenagh began to exact their revenge for their playoff loss to Rock two years ago, capitalising on silly errors and a yellow card to claw the game back within grasp.

A frantic final quarter saw Nenagh score a try followed by a quick penalty to put the game out to two scores 38-29. Rock let the shackles off and went in chase of a losing bonus point, which they secured through  Brian Colclough try on 79 minutes. There was time for one last restart and the deja vu set in for the home support. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be today with Nenagh securing the bragging rights.

Next up is Old Belvedere in Ollie Campbell Park this Saturday (5th October), a big home crowd is booked for the lunch and no doubt another pulsating game of rugby is in store.
