President's Note

25 April 2023

President John Colclough

Hello everyone,

Well, last weekend was hectic to say the least.

Friday kicked things off with the Golf Classic in Elm Park run and organized superbly by Ronan Godfrey, Mick Dwan, Neil Keogh, Julie Savage, and Molly Shibley. Your work is much appreciated by the Club. Paul Wallace gave a wonderful speech afterwards giving us an insight into playing for Ireland and the Lions.

The weekend's main event took place on Saturday with the First team taking on Nenagh in semi-final for promotion to 1B. The pre-match lunch was again a big success with another large crowd in attendance.

In very poor conditions both teams served us a game that can only described as a battle of physicality with no little skill thrown in. Great credit must go to both teams for the sporting way the game was played. We wish all those well who picked up injuries and hope to see them back very soon. Blackrock came out on top in this epic battle 10 - 8 and we now move onto May 6th for the final against Barnhall at home in Stradbrook where another big crowd will be expected.

Sunday saw two finals being played. First up, our Under 20's went down in a fantastic game 31 - 28 to Greystones. A great season for Spencer and his team and we hope to see these lads moving up to the senior teams in the next 2 years. My thanks to Mark Mc Ginty and Paul Graham for all their work during the year ably assisted by Enda Norton on the sideline.

Sunday also saw our Womens first team head to Galway for their final of the AIL plate where they too went down narrowly to Galwegians in another very tight game. To Michelle Claffey and her team and to Ben, Phillip, and Dave, and all the management team, well done on what has been a great season for you reaching 2 finals and claiming the AIL league after a long absence .

This week will be a quiet week with just the senior seconds playing their relegation play-off game against Wanderers on Thursday night 27th April.

Enjoy the week and we will see you all again for the big week ahead next week.
