Last Sunday, 74 U9 players and their parents travelled by coach to sunny Tipperary for the U9 Spirit of Rugby Festival at Clonmel RFC. As one of the few Leinster sides in attendance, the lads arrived in full voice with blue and white flags and well-rehearsed chants (much to the parents’ amusement on the journey down!) to announce their arrival.
On the pitch, the boys delivered an excellent display against strong opposition, showing great tackling, sharp passing, and impressive attacking play throughout the day. A highlight for many was a special visit from Oscar, Munster Rugby’s mascot (aka “The Reindeer”), along with two provincial players.
At the end of a fantastic day, all 500 participants were presented with medals to mark their efforts and involvement in the festival.
A huge thank you to our hosts Clonmel RFC for their outstanding hospitality, to the U9 coaches, and to the parents and grandparents who travelled in great numbers to support the boys. Most importantly, well done to the players for their fantastic effort and enthusiasm throughout the day.
Special thanks also go to Anne-Marie Genin-Charette for her invaluable help with finance, logistics, and the overall organisation of the trip. Anne-Marie will return to her native Canada this summer and will be greatly missed on Sunday mornings in the clubhouse.
À bientôt, Anne-Marie.
