After a damp squib of an international on Friday night, attention turned back to the club game where Rock aimed to put their disappointing visit up North behind them.
Things couldn't have started worse for the home side. An early rolling maul from the Munster men, saw their hooker touch down and with that collide with Rock '10 O'Shaugnessy meaning he would play no further part in the contest.
Rock reshuffled the back line and settled into the game. Some compact play opened up space out wide and stand-in out-half Brian Colclough went under the posts untouched. He converted his own try and Rock led 7-5. Despite all the possession and territory, Rock couldn't add to this and the scores remained the same heading into the break.
Rock turned to face the clubhouse and again wrestled the ascendency. Big carries from man of the match James Burke and a clever kicking game meant it was very difficult for Shannon to get out of their own 22. Eventually the dominance paid with two quick tries, the first a well executed rolling maul for hooker Liam McMahon to dot down. The third a nice pick and go from left wing Barry Galvin. Rock went chasing the try bonus and nearly took their eye off the ball, allowing Shannon back into the contest with a try int he right corner. 19-10 with 15 mins left. Rock turned the screw and were rewarded when hooker Liam McMahon found himself alone on the left wing. Ringrose found the perfect pass and the hooker dived in to wrap up the 5 point match haul.
The win moves Rock to sixth on the table, joint amount of points as Wesley and Naas ahead of them. Meaning this weekends fixture against the Kildare men has added spice to it. Kick off in Forenaughts is 2.30pm, with the J1 fixture beforehand. All travelling support is welcome as always.
