Hello Everyone,

The Blackrock College RFC 1st team headed to Limerick to face a Garryowen side with tight losses to both Naas and table toppers St Mary's in previous weeks. It served up another great game of hard fought rugby in cold, crisp winter weather in Dooradoyle last weekend. A super BRFC supporter group was in attendance and Garryowen hosted a pre-match lunch which was very well-attended by our members. It’s always great to see and thanks for traveling and the commitment!!

The Garryowen captain on the day was Gordon Wood, and his grandson of the same name played for Garryowen last Saturday. Blackrock College RFC was captained by Jim Thomas whose son Colin is a club member and past player of the club.

The game started at a quick pace and it was Garryowen taking their opportunities well in the first half with Gordon Wood Jr at the heart of most of the home side's good early play.

Half-time saw Garryowen lead but Rock had pulled back two late tries and it was either teams for the taking--end to end rugby from both attacking teams is how we watch this team and its always highly entertaining.

The Rock game out strong at the start of the second half, and scored two excellent, well-executed tries to get us ahead 26-24 and into the last quarter where the home side managed to get the score to win this away fixture.

Two hard-fought points secured on the road is the bottom line and it consolidates 2nd place in the division. It's now onto two big games to bring us into Christmas and where we need all the continued support.

The Firsts head to St. Mary's this weekend, a local derby not to be missed. It's been a while since we've been to Templeville Rd so please come along and enjoy the day and support Blackrock RFC from 2.30pm on Saturday.

The last home fixture of the year is at home in Stradbrook on the 16th Dec versus Buccaneers RFC, and with large numbers already booked for the lunch, it will be a great place to watch exciting rugby and meet faces old and new. Please continue the support of Blackrock RFC and all its team, thanks again for the support, hard work, hard wins and losses of all the club teams…and it's on to next week!

Thanks again for all the support of Blackrock RFC and its team. Let's continue the support, hard work, hard wins and losses of all the club teams…and it's on to next week!
