Hello everyone,
Here we are three weeks gone in January and the matches are coming fast and furious. Last weekend started with a great win for the Seconds against Old Wesley in the league. The match was played on the 4G pitch in Williamstown. It was great to see a number of lads back from injury and staking their claims for places in the First team. They play Old Belvedere this coming Friday in another game under lights.
The following day, the First team headed to Nenagh in what was always going to be a very tough encounter. It wasn't helped by a number of injuries to our front five including our captain Liam McMahon. Notwithstanding that, the team played wonderfully for about 65 minutes and scored one of the tries of the season with Peter Quirke rounding off a really brilliant team move. Nenagh stuck to their guns and scored a late penalty and try to just pip us at the post. We are at home next Saturday against UL Bohs in what will be another tough game against Limerick opposition. We are still in playoff position with 7 games left and everything is still there to be played for.
Our Under-20 team played on Sunday and beat Galway University in a very entertaining game. They have now moved up to second in the table in their league. I am looking forward to watching some of the very obvious talent in this group developing into senior squad members. Finally our third teams match was not played on Saturday.
On another note, the club is interested to hear your views on the new tackle laws being introduced in the UK and possibly to follow here in Ireland. Please feel free to respond to the poll below*, or approach either myself or a committee member in-person and let us know what you think.
Anyway, onwards and upwards! I hope to see you all at Stradbrook next weekend. The usual pre-match meal will be held at 1:00 before the game.
