I’m delighted to be reflecting on a great start to the season after the firsts victory over Wanderers in Stradbrook as an opener to our new season on Saturday 31st August. The performance showed flair, grit and determination, everyone is very pleased to get the campaign off to a winning start and it brings us to our first final of the season, against Naas in Donnybrook on Saturday 7th September. It was really encouraging to see over eight of the squad making their competitive debuts for Blackrock College RFC and we would like to offer a warm welcome to all new recruits and the very best of luck with your season ahead. This is testament to all the hard work of the rugby club’s senior management team and all the hard work in the preseason, thank you all from the club and its supporters.
The 2nd XV started their season on the following, Monday evening and had an encouraging win over American touring side, Raleigh and again great to see so many new faces in Blackrock College RFC colours and as always lead so well by Aidan Finn and his support team.
On a sun-drenched Saturday in autumn, in Donnybrook and in front of great Rock support, our firsts competed in the Leinster League final against our AIL competitors Naas RFC. In an end to end first half, Naas lead by 26-12. Blackrock came out quick in the second half and got the score board moving, bringing it to 26-21. Naas hit back but as did Rock and we had a 31-28 game on our hands with 20 mins left on the clock. Blackrock lived in Naas half and played all the rugby, but good defence kept us out on the day and some good lessons learned for the year ahead. Well done lads, the heat and tempo of the game was exceptional and your commitment, second to none.
Triangle Technology are continuing as the Club’s main sponsor for this season. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new Club sponsors for Season 2024/25, we are very grateful to them all and look forward to building and developing all these relationships over the next twelve months.
Kind Regards,
Ray McMahon
President,
Blackrock College RFC
