Countdown to the Women's New Season

The countdown to the new season is well underway for Blackrock Women, with an exciting mix of fresh talent and new coaching expertise shaping preparations. We’re delighted to welcome Niall Neville as Head Coach, Dave Quinn as Forwards Coach, and our very own player-turned-coach, Mya Alcorn, who takes charge of the 2nd XV. Combined with a number of promising new signings, there’s a real sense of momentum and anticipation building around the squad.

Preparations are being bolstered off the pitch too, with Rob Elliott of Lifted Lifestyle leading the strength and conditioning programme to ensure the players are primed for the challenges ahead. Behind the scenes, the ever-reliable duo of Amy McKenna and Jen Moore continue as team managers, the vital cogs keeping everything moving. We’re also delighted to have “Disco” Dave Brennan back as Kit Man and Cathy Fitzgerald returning for her second year as Head Physio, providing crucial continuity and support.

Pre-season has already provided valuable tests, with a lively combined training session and warm-up game against Wicklow RFC giving the team important minutes on the pitch and a chance to bed in new combinations. This week, attention turns to Barnhall RFC as preparations ramp up another gear, sharpening focus and setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting campaign ahead.

All the while, it has been tremendous to see Béibhinn Parsons, Aoibheann Reilly, Emily Lane, Eimear Corri-Fallon, Enya Breen, and Méabh Deely firing Ireland into a Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final – a source of huge pride and inspiration for everyone at the club. The girls now face France this Sunday at 1pm in Sandy Park, Exeter, with the match broadcast live on RTÉ2.

Blackrock Women head into the new season with solid foundations, renewed energy, and plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
