20s Win Purcell Cup!

The u20s won the Purcell Cup on Saturday afternoon defeating Seapoint 39-21 in the final.
On a great day for playing rugby, the 20s started the game well and took a 7-0 lead after 10 mins with captain Jamie Rogan scoring from the back of a driving maul. A second try quickly followed when the ball was moved to right wing Jed O’Malley who beat 3 players to score an excellent individual try.
A period of pressure followed from Seapoint and they eventually scored in the corner from a cross field kick to leave the score at 12-7 after c. 20mins.
The 20’s came roaring back and scored 3 unconverted tries before half time, 2 more from Jamie Rogan at the back of driving mauls and one from winger Cal Traynor Russell, to lead 27-7 at the break.
The 20s then started the second half strongly with second row David Leane crashing over from range maul 5 minutes in to the half To lead 32-7. This lead was extended to 39-7 on 60 mins with Jamie Rogan adding his 4th try again off the back of a powerful maul.
Seapoint never gave up and continued to play and scored 2 late tries but the work had already been done by the 20s.
The full time whistle saw great scenes on the pitch and in the dressing room with celebrations continuing long in to the night in the rugby club. It was a great way for the 20s to finish the season!
