A wet and rather wintery evening kick off in Angelsea Road for Blackrock's second game of the 2018/2019 Season. However, the rain held off relatively well in a first half which, rather predictably, saw a lot of scrums from errors with ball in hand. This didn't stop Belvos fluidity of play in the back line and good hands across the pitch saw them open the games scoring after 10 minutes of play.
It was unconverted and play for the first half continued in very much the same vein with a lot of scrums and line outs as Belvo looked to kick and utilise the wind to keep Rock on the back foot.
Rocks defence stood up to the task and Belvo had to wait until the 36th minute before they were rewarded with their and the games second try. 12-0 to the home side at half time.
The second half saw some improved play from Rock. Turning over the ball and earning themselves a scatter of penalties early on in the second half. Unfortunately, possession in the key areas was unable to be turned into points on the scoreboard. Score finished at 17-0. Rock were disappointed not to be able to get things ticking against a strong Belvo side. However, Rock will take alot from the game itself. A vast improvement to the score in the same fixture last year, some more game time for new caps, and many learnings to take forward in general. A work in progress but most certainly taking steps in the right direction.
