Niall Quinn, R.I.P.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Rock member, Niall Quinn.
Niall epitomized all that was good about Blackrock College RFC, as a player, club president, life member, and friend.
Niall joined the club after playing on Rock's SCT, and he would go on to have a long playing career, which evolved into administrator roles off the pitch. Most notably Niall served as President from 1977-78. It was during his influential Presidency that the lower pitches were purchased.
Some of Niall’s family would follow in his Rock footsteps- his son Peter played for the club, and his grandsons, Simon and Andrew were involved in the minis program.
In recent years, Niall continued to be a constant presence at Stradbrook, you could always catch him on the sidelines with a quick anecdote. At 92 years young, he was still actively involved, even jumping online to participate in recent Zoom meetings. Niall was a true gentleman, a Rock man to his core, and he will be greatly missed by all of us at Blackrock College RFC.
Our sympathies go out to the entire Quinn family, especially his wife Peggy, and sons Michael and Peter.
May Niall rest in Peace.
Funeral arrangements to follow.
