First XV V. UL Bohs Match Report

AIL 2A Round 7

vs UL Bohemian RFC

Annacotty

A large travelling support gathered to clap our lads out onto the pitch at a very blustery Annacotty.

We decided to make the far touch line our base for the game and headed off to walk around to our viewing position.

By the time we arrived at the far side of the pitch, we were in the lead.

A penalty was awarded from the kick off. We kicked to the corner and from the resultant lineout, Captain Liam McMahon went over to score.

Kicker Quirke faced a difficult kick into a heavy cross wind, which missed.

Six minutes later, Bohs scored a converted TRY to take the lead.

7: 5

On twelve minutes we had a lineout just inside the Bohs half.

Our forwards drove us on and after seven phases of play, we had made 20 metres.

A penalty at the breakdown, saw Scrum Half Ross Barron take the quick tap.

He passed to Roy Whelan who scored.

Kicker added the extras with a super kick into the wind.

Bohs, gaining field position from some excellent kicking aided by the wind at their backs, scored another converted TRY on 19 minutes.

19’

14 : 12

Just four minutes later, Brian ‘Cokes’ Colclough scored the TRY of the afternoon.

From a Rock scrum on half way, he received the ball on the left wing and made what appears to be his weekly dash down the line to score in the corner.

Difficult kick missed.

14 : 17

The rest of the first half was mostly played in the middle third of the pitch.

Good defence from both sides meant no more scores were added in the remaining 17 minutes.

HT

14 : 17

On 44 minutes, we had a lineout at the Bohs 22 metre line.

A great take by Roy Whelan led to us quickly setting up a driving maul which made good yards.

Barron took the ball and passed to James ‘Jesus’ Fennelly who chipped over the top towards their line.

Quirkie was first to the dropping ball and secured our TRY bonus, scoring under the posts.

He then converted his own TRY.

44’

14 : 24

Just before the hour mark, Bohs scored another converted TRY.

The referee gave a yellow card to both Rock & Bohs after the score.

58’

21 : 24

With twenty minutes left in the match, Coach James Blaney sent on James Burke & Ciaran Cassidy to bolster our scrum and give Dave Fortune & Niall Hardiman a well deserved rest for their efforts.

The replacements’ impact was felt immediately as we were awarded a penalty from a Bohs scrum.

From the lineout, the ball came to Jesus Fennelly, who once again went for the crossfield kick.

This time Cokes was there to receive it and score his second TRY of the afternoon.

Kicker added the extras with a great effort from out wide.

64’

21 : 31

Andrew Savage replaced Joe ‘Joey B’ Byrne (neck strain) for the last fifteen minutes.

With ten minutes left, Bohs scored an unconverted TRY and we received another yellow card.

70’

26 : 31

Coaches Blanes & Stan gave out some tactical instructions and our fourteen lads kept the ball for the remaining time, even being held up once over their line.
