Blackrock College RFC complete successful GIAT program with Mums participation in Tag4EveryMum.

Starting in July 2021, with the support of IRFU Leinster branch and the Rock senior women's team, The Give It a Try rugby program for girls was hosted again in Stradbrook.

The first session was held under a deluge of rain but that did not damp the enthusiasm of 17 girls that turned up ranging in age from 8 to 12 to give a rugby a try. The program ran for 8 weeks and a new pilot initiative to encourage Mums participation was introduced 4 weeks in called Tag4EveryMum. This was held adjacent to the GIAT sessions and introduced the game of rugby to Mums in a fun and friendly setting.

The program officially completed in mid Sept and due to its success, it has been replaced by weekly Tuesday evening sessions at 6PM for the girls to train while the Tag4EveryMum has also continued alongside.

Rock and Leinster player Christy Haney has led the sessions with help from players on the senior women's team including a few Leinster and Ireland Internationals. The club would also like to acknowledge assistance from DLR under the Women in sport programme that has enabled the girls section to be well equipped for their training sessions..

Any girls aged between 7 and 13 are welcome to come down and try it out. Sessions are held on Sundays at 10:00 AM on the all weather pitch and on Tuesday evenings at 6PM on the lower training pitch under flood lights.
