Match Report: Women v Railway Union
Blackrock redeemed themselves from last week with an impressive first half team performance, starting very well.
They dealt with a very experienced Railway team littered with International representation. This was a fairly evenly matched contest.
Railway scored first out wide.
Hannah O'Connor, Rock No. 8, dotted down from the back of an impressive scrum, dominating the railway pack. This was followed by an equally impressive conversion from near the touch line by O'Connor again. Score 7-5 to Blackrock at half time.
Railway scored, conversion missed. Score 10-7.
Railways indiscipline around the park at the break down allowed O’Connor to decide to opt for posts from 40m out to the left of the posts. O’Connor confidentially and comfortably made the distance, and some. This left the score 10-10, with 20 minutes left.
Blackrock’s minor errors in defence were capitalized by Railways Internationals - Keohane and Muldoon, both nabbing tries under the posts.
However to their credit Rock pushed on and played the last ten minutes in Railways 22. Jackie Shiels made a break through the heart of the railway defence, however was dragged down, 20 meters out.
Rock crossed the white wash by a powerful run by Ali Coleman after a well worked team try. This was building on a number of phases by all, moving from left to right.
The conversion was narrowly missed.
Rock will feel that these points got away, at a minimum a bonus point was what they deserved given the performance.
Caoimhe Molloy carried incredibly well for Blackrock, working tirelessly around the park. Maeve O'Leary debut at centre, did not look out of place, getting gain line.
