Match Report: 1sts v Tullamore
Rock miss fire in a well earned win over Tullamore in Spollanstown.
The first try came from Paul Cullen. Started from a line out and a subsequent break down on the 5 meter, Cullen crashed over with some hard running.
Converted by out half Peter Quirke. 7 - 0
Shortly after Tullamore made a similar drive from a line out of their own, following a kick to touch from penalty for “not releasing" in the centre of the park.
Solid pillar defence from the forwards meant Tullamore went to the backs. Some rush defence left a gap and Tullamore went straight in under the posts. 7 -7
Regrouped, Rock got back to work! And got over for their second converted try 14 - 7
Follow quickly by a third; after some clean work in the line out and breakdown, some ball good distribution from out half Quirke, Hugo Godson Tracey finished the move with some quick, hard running. 19-7
Some grunt from the Tullamore men saw them capitalise on good field position as the forwards marched their way over, converted. 19-12
An intercept try from John Gallagher saw rock go 24-12 up early in the second half, against the wind out wide, the conversion was always against the odds.
This was Rocks best period, following some fast pressure from the backs, Rock we’re knocking on the door.
Against the run of play Tullamore turn the ball over. After some phase play they kick to clear their lines.
From inside the rock Half, Adam Larmor received the kick, running hard, he cutely chipped the oncoming Tullamore defensive, sprinting through and catches his own kick! Offloads to a rampaging prop forward Joe Byrne!
Some great pace from the prop sees him crash over for the try. 31 - 12
Not to lie down, Tullamore gave a good account, scoring again but failed to covert. 31-19.
Rock always looked good from early in the second half and had certain passes went to hand or that final pass came off, the score board could have looked a lot different.
Rock continued to press for the remainder of the game, but there were no more scores.
