Friday night faulty lights as Wanderers edge out Rock in a very close game.

In a game where the Rock scrum and line out fired quite well, and the possession stacked heavily in their favour, the finishing touch remained illusive.

Rock started slow and were quickly punished from a missed tackle in the line of defence. Converted, Wanderers went 7-0 up.

A penalty shortly after from out half Peter Quirke brought it to 7-3.

More pressure from Wanderers and Rock conceded again! But failed to convert. 12-3

With 8 minutes to half time, the Friday night lights failed.

A welcomed break for Rock, as they looking like a different team when they restarted.

After some very hard running from Hugo Godson Tracey, heavy pressure up front lead to a penalty try, new rules, no conversion needed, 12-10.

A shortened half time due to the light stoppage, meant the game was back underway quickly.

The second half was very competitive up front, Rock looking like they were winning the battle. Possession and territory was heavily weighted in the blue and white favour.

Against the run of play, in a rare second half visit to the rock 22, Wanderers again get over the line and punish Rock where it matters, on the sore board. 19-13.

The Rock pressure, territory, possession and set piece dominance continued, multiple drives to the line were unravelled by a last gasp Wanderers defence. Ultimately leading to two further penally kicks for out half Peter Quirke. 19-16.

While there are many positives to take away for this young team of newly formed players, in the end while set piece and territory are the cornerstone of our sport, the only judge score board.
