Match Report: Div 3 Playoff Final

The Div 3 lost the league final on Sunday in a hard fought game away to Wanderers. The game started in good weather but Wanderers were the ones who started the brighter, tough Rock defence held them scoreless for 20 mins before eventually cracking and conceding a try, 5-0. Rock fought back very valiantly and two quick penalties by Andy Quirke meant Rock led 6-5 at the break. Wanderers came flying out of the blocks and had another unconverted try after 3 minutes. The weather had deteriorated badly at this stage which meant there were more handling errors. From one of these, Rock had a scrum on the half way line which AQ kicked Crossfield for Ben Ingram to race onto and score from the half way line which some were saying was the try of the season.

Rock had 18 minutes to hold onto an 11-10 lead but the power of the Wanderers' forwards eventually told with Rock conceding a penalty under their posts with 12 mins to go, 13-11. As hard as Rock tried they couldn’t get into the field position required and one last furore into the Wanderers half was eventually spilled and Rock lost 13-11 after an heroic effort.

All the players would like to thank the many fans who turned up to support the players even when the weather got very bad! Having come so close, it’ll be extra motivation to go and win it next year!
