Pat Finn, Blackrock College RFC Chairman 2019-2020
It was a great honour for me to be asked to act as Chairman of our club at the last AGM, a post I’m very happy to take up for the coming season. I would like to welcome you all to the club for the upcoming 2019/2020 season, and to wish our President, John Colgan, along with all our players and coaches, great success and enjoyment for the year.
I am also pleased to report an increase in player numbers, along with a strong retention and recruitment at AIL level. I also welcome all of the members of the Executive Committee to the new season and the challenges of running a large rugby club composed of many strands, from mini rugby up to the AIL senior team, as well as maintaining the superb grounds and facilities we have in Stradbrook. I am sure the quality of our three pitches, an excellent gym and shower area, and floodlights are the envy of many other clubs around the country, and remarks by officials from visiting clubs regularly confirm this. We continue to try to upgrade and improve our structural facilities and coaching for all our teams. The club obtained planning permission a few years ago to install an all-weather floodlit training area to the rear of the main pitch. It is our intention to start this installation by the end of the summer with a view to it being available for both team training and third-party rental by October. This will be a great additional facility for the club as well as being a valuable revenue earner going forward.
Our club need volunteers at all levels from coaching through administration to fundraising and I would ask anyone interested in helping out to contact me or any member of the executive committee—even a small of input can help the collective effort.
This year sees our first team compete in division 2B of the AIL and I would particularly like to welcome new coaches James Blayney and Denis Hurley to the club and wish them well in their promotion targets for this and coming years. Cabinteely FC continue to ground share with our club and make a significant contribution to the standard of the playing surface. We wish them well in their final league games of the 2018/19 season.
So good luck to all involved in our club at all levels. players, coaches, staff and volunteers
