Weekend Match Reports: Div 2 & 5

Div 2 v St Marys The div 2 had a great win away to top of the table St Mary’s on Sunday. Falling behind to an early try Rock regrouped and struck back with two tries themselves to lead 17-14 at the break. The game ebbed and flowed with score for score and with 11 mins to go Rock were trailing 28-24 and behind their own goal line but some wonderful attacking play meant that they broke out for John Gallagher to score in the corner before he shortly followed up with an intercept. With the clock in the red Rock ran from deep to score a contender for try of the season by Sean Joyce in the corner to win 48-28. 4 tried from John Gallagher, Ben Ingram, Sean Joyce and Ian Kinsley rounded off a great

Match Report: Div 2 v Old Wesley

The Div 2 had a must-win clash against top of the table Wesley in a rain-sodden Energia park on Saturday morning and got off to a perfect start thanks to a Ben Ingram try after 5 minutes. With conditions deteriorating, chances were at a premium and Wesley responded with a well worked try before Eoin Fanning scored from close range to give ‘Rock a deserved 14-5 lead at HT. Wesley came out very strong in the second half and scored almost immediately and followed up 10 minutes later to take a 19-14 lead. Rock never gave up and with a minute to go after a number of scrums 5m from the Wesley line the ref finally caved and gave Rock a penalty try to take the lead and the game 21-19! Rock move on t

Match Report: Women v Railway Union

Blackrock redeemed themselves from last week with an impressive first half team performance, starting very well. They dealt with a very experienced Railway team littered with International representation. This was a fairly evenly matched contest. Railway scored first out wide. Hannah O'Connor, Rock No. 8, dotted down from the back of an impressive scrum, dominating the railway pack. This was followed by an equally impressive conversion from near the touch line by O'Connor again. Score 7-5 to Blackrock at half time. Railway scored, conversion missed. Score 10-7. Railways indiscipline around the park at the break down allowed O’Connor to decide to opt for posts from 40m out to the left of the
