Bright Lights Tag festival is a new pre-summer season tag festival established with the aim of raising awareness and donations for both Aware and Pieta House. Blackrock hosted Galwegians on Clontarf Rugby club’s synthetic pitch on Sunday afternoon in the sides’ third meeting of the season. The Westerners had recorded two narrow league victories but Blackrock were determined to get back to winning ways. Dawn Smith collected the first kick-off and following the first ruck, Carmela Morey picked a good line off Niamh Griffin to break through the defence from her own 10 metre line. Having gone past the full-back, Carmela offloaded to back row partner Mairead Holohan just before she was caught. A scrambling Galwegian defender managed to bring Mairead to ground just short of the line but she was able to pop the ball up for Carmela to gather and dot down
Ireland Women's 7s Squad Confirmed for Sydney 7s Ireland Director of Rugby Sevens, Anthony Eddy has confirmed the 12-woman side to
compete at the Sydney 7s this Friday and Saturday (3rd and 4th February) at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney. The side, which will be captained by Lucy Mulhall, sees three changes to the one that competed in the first stage of the 2016/17 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in Dubai in December.
Susan Vaughan, Chloe Blackmore and Louise Galvin are the new members to the squad this time around, and they will line up alongside Ashleigh Baxter, Katie Fitzhenry, Emma Murphy, Megan Williams, Kim Flood, Stacey Flood, Hannah Tyrrell and Amee-Leigh Murphy-Crowe.
