Div 8 Beat UCD

In a typical Irish Saturday The Div 8 team beat UCD 3-7 in Belfield. The weather kept on changing, from blinding sun at one point to sideways sleet for most of the second half. UCD slotted a penalty after ten minutes to go 3-0 ahead and this last right the way through until with twenty minutes left Gavin Hegarty took a pass from Tom Taafe five metres out and the momentum too him under the posts. Final score 3-7 and delight to the final whistle from the Rock side who only had two subs.

Rock 2nd XV Square off Against Naas for Final Honours

Not since 1984 has a Blackrock 2nd XV won a title at J1 level and not since 2012, the year after the divisional format was introduced has the team had the opportunity to play against some of the top second XV’s in the country from clubs like UCD, Old Belvedere, Terenure, Lansdowne and Clontarf. On the line this Sunday at Stradbrook is just that. Near the end of a long season the Rock 2nd XV have the opportunity to not only win the Metro Division 2 League title but also gain promotion to Division 1 for the 2016/17 season. J1 book Stradbrook final

The J1 lined up against Lansdowne on Sunday looking to finalise a home league final. Rock knew a win would guarantee a Stradbrook final against Naas and started with intent. Early pressure and intricate back play led to full back Kelvin Leahy crossing for the games first try. Barney failed to tag on the extras but soon found his mojo with two penalties to give the home side an 11 0 cushion. However, to their credit a spell of pressure led to Lansdowne crossing out wide to reduce the score line to 11 7. This only acted as a reminder to Rock and soon they had increased their lead. Big carries from the pack in equal measure led to an eventual pushover penalty try from a 5m scrum. Billy Glynn al
