Seconds Get Cup off to a Winning Start

The J1’s began their cup campaign with a hard fought 33 29 win over Seapoint in Kilbogget park on Sunday. Rock got off to the best possible start when David Scott-Lennon crossed in the corner after a lengthy build up. Scott-lennon converted admirably from the touchline in tough conditions to give his team a 7 0 lead. The positive of an early try was cancelled out by the loss of Captain Gavin Bolger to a broken hand after the opening phase but nevertheless Rock continued to use the gale force wind to their advantage and this time it was the forwards turn to get in on the act. James Tate diving in from close range after some strong carrying before Job Langbroek followed him over from a well wo

‘Ass on the Grass’ Fundraiser

Blackrock College RFC calls for a final big push on ticket sales for the ‘Ass on the Grass’ fundraiser. Due to poor weather conditions, the original December 2015 date for this event was postponed. The new date is March the 5th for Lucy the donkey to be let loose on the pitch at Stradbrook Rd to do her business. Until then, we are asking for your continued support. Quite simply, the game begins by purchasing a ticket for €10. All tickets are numbered and correlate with a square on the pitch - there is a maximum total of 1250 squares. Once our designated donkey is released onto Stradbrook soil, wherever she first takes a Number 2, will determine the winner of an AMAZING €2,000 CASH PRIZE. I

Firsts Beat Ballymena

It is three defeats on the trot for Ballymena who lost to table toppers St. Mary's last time out. Andy Graham's men remain in third place, but are now seven points behind Dublin University with four rounds remaining. There was nothing between the sides at half-time in Stradbrook, with Blackrock turning around level-pegging - 13-13 - thanks to John Burke's converted try and two Jack O'Carroll penalties. Ballymena, who had a penalty try and eight points from the boot of Ritchie McMaster, would have expected to push on in the second period, especially with the Ulster-capped Dave Shanahan andStephen Mulholland both starting. However, the visitors were held scoreless during the closing 40 m

Div 8 Start Cup Campaign with a Bang

On a Cold and Wet Febuary afternoon in Malahide Martin Lynch shared his tactics with the Div 8 Squad. Expansive Rugby, wear them down. It worked. After three minutes converted GAA player Stephen Beale touched down after a block down and somefly hacks. Two minutes later Johnny did the same after some equisite back play forced a gap in the centre which Rex Ingram was delighted to exploit. The Halftime score of 41-0 was a fair reflection of the game but fair play to Malahide, they came out stronger in the second half and had a constant surge on our line for around ten minutes but Rocks excellent defence lines, lead by Mark Burke, Div 8 Veteran Lumbo and the token pensioner Bolo, kept them out b

Greg Mc Williams, Head Coach Blackrock College RFC U20s 2004-2008

As a student of St Michael’s College, I grew up disliking Blackrock College, why? I don’t really know. I suppose in sport, It doesn’t help when you lose to a rival more often then not. It gets tiring and frustrating. It was a dislike that was built on a lack of reality, and unrealistic reasoning. I think I was jealous, and had admiration underneath the ignorance. I wanted St Michaels College to win so badly. I wasn’t a top level player, by any means, in fact, I was average. I always felt my mind was efficient, like a professional, but my body was too slow, like a Sunday League amateur. [Very] I was lucky to be a Leinster Under 20’s squad member, an AIL player back in the late 90s early 00’s,

Never mind the Balearics: Ibiza 2015

When’s the last time Blackrock College RFC went on a full 1st XV tour? Pub quiz time. After much head-scratching, we figured it was way back in the year 2000. Paris ’07 doesn’t count, by the way, because that was only a two-day job and in any case, we only went so we could watch Ireland v Argentina in the RWC – good times. A full 15 years since the last tour, so that was part 2 of our start-of-season goal: get promoted back to Division 1; get a tour organised. Vancouver was Plan A, mainly because the last trip (Chicago in 2000) had thrown up so many stories that we wanted to recreate the North American vibe. So even though the club was going through some big changes – a fantastic new gym loa
