The 2016/2017 season has been a very successful one for the under 10’s (born in 2007). The year started with a bang, with the under 10’s, 11’s and 12’s all hosting a big group of visitors from Wilmslow RFC, giving the boys the first chance to demonstrate their mettle, against their slightly older and larger English counterparts. The boys stepped up to the mark and got the season off to a great start with some stellar performances, which then set us up for a year of strong development in terms of skills and commitment, demonstrated through the metro league fixtures that came thick and fast in December and into the early part of 2017. Over Easter, a small group made the trip to represent the club at a blitz in Shannon Rugby Club, again displaying superb determination, dedication, camaraderie and no little skill to sweep all before them and come away undefeated from a very wet but enjoyable day in Limerick. At the end of April, roughly half of the boys took part in their first rugby tour abroad, travelling to Manchester to take part in Wilmslow RFC’s annual blitz. As is always the case, the standard of rugby at the blitz was very high and the competition was fierce, but the boys did superbly well, with one of our teams winning their section, one finishing runners up, and the other only just missing out on a place in the grand final to an extra time try. All-in-all the 2007 boys have shown very strong development throughout the year and are a really great bunch of boys to be involved with. Roll on next year (after a nice long summer break)!
